Consultation is underway on the design of paths and associated infrastructure for a rural path and cycling network.

The £7 million Clydesdale Way project focuses on the rural path and cycling network to address the gaps in the regional paths network linking to John Buchan Way, Southern Upland Way and Clyde Walkway.

It aims to establish active travel links between local communities and create investment in infrastructure to develop tourism in the area.

It is part of a larger active tourism project worth £22 million, funded by Levelling Up Fund, with South Lanarkshire Council working in partnership with Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway Councils.

Head of Enterprise and Sustainable Development, Alison Brown, said: “The current proposed Clydesdale Way is approximately 132km in total.

“There are high level routes which pass through hilly and exposed terrain and low-level routes that follow the river corridors.

“The availability of both high and low-level routes creates loops that provide more diverse options and increase the appeal to a wider range of users.

“I would encourage everyone to have a look at the plans and take part in the survey.”
